Proposed mechanism based on the observed findings. No synovitis or fibrin deposition occurs in healthy joints. In RA or OA joints, there are massive fibrin deposits in synovial membrane and cartilage. This lead to cartilage damage via direct: (1) induction of catabolic enzymes; (2) induction of CSA with subsequent mechanical stress and stripping of the superficial cartilage layers; (3) induction of calcification.
