Induction of the synthesis of mntA mRNA by Mn²⁺ starvation in L. plantarum ATCC 14917. Total RNA was isolated from L. plantarum ATCC 14917 Mn²⁺-starved (−) or Mn²⁺-sufficient (+) cells, treated with DNase I, and reverse transcribed with a specific antisense primer. The RT reaction mixture was used as a template to perform PCR to amplify a 1.1-kb fragment of mntA as described in the text.
