Each bone slice was analyzed blindly and independently by two researchers. TRAcP intensity and the presence of stromal cells were analyzed on a 0-3 scale and the average number of nuclei per cell was counted. ^∗/^∗∗Fisher's exact test,p < 0.05. Example images are shown in Figure 4 and S4.
