Salpeter, et al., meta-analyses show that initiation of hormone replacement therapy in women less than 60 years (y) of age and/or less than 10 years-since-menopause (ysm), statistically significantly reduces both all-cause mortality (24) and coronary heart disease (25) relative to placebo. The all-cause mortality meta-analysis included 30 randomized controlled trials of 119,188 women-years and the coronary heart disease meta-analysis included 23 randomized controlled trials of 191,340 women-years.
