The bone remodeling cycle of resorption, reversal, and formation. Osteoclast and osteoblast precursors are recruited from the marrow to become active osteoclasts and osteoblasts on bone surfaces where they arrange themselves into temporary structures termed BMUs that execute bone remodeling in coordination with the actions of matrix-embedded osteocytes.
