In the figure, work stress and sleep quality are latent variables, variables that cannot be directly observed and measured, but need to be measured indirectly through the design of several indicators. Thus, effort and overcommitment are explicit variables for work stress; subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, and daytime dysfunction are explicit variables for sleep quality. Numbers between latent and explicit variables represent factor loading. e1–e10 refer to the residuals of the variable to which the arrow points.
