Schematic structure of NFATc4. The calcium-regulated NFATc4 protein composed of the NHR, the RHD and the N- and C-terminal transactivation domains. The NHR displays a calcineurin-binding site, a nuclear localization sequence (NLS). Another NLS is located in the RHD. Most of the NFATc4 serine-proline residues that are dephosphorylated upon calcineurin activation and phosphorylated by several kinases are located in NHR. The most conserved domain, RHD, also called DNA binding domain (DBD) that directly contacts with DNA is indicated as the DNA-binding loop.
