25-HC targets in the nervous system. The main producers of 25-HC are activated macrophages and microglial cells [3, 4, 58]. Released 25-HC can affect glial cells (microglia, oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and Schwann cells) and neurons. 25-HC influences synaptic transmission by acting on presynaptic and postsynaptic receptors (see the text for detailed explanation).
