Comparison of prior studies that have evaluated outcomes of as patients with baseline diastolic dysfunction after TAVR

Study name Author and journal Study type Study population Main findings Main difference from our study
Diastolic Function and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement John E.A. Blair et al. JASE, 2017. Single centre retrospective cohort study. 120 patients with severe AS who underwent TAVR. Baseline diastolic dysfunction associated with increased mortality at 1 year. (HR, 1.163; 95% CI, 1.049 to 1.277,
p=0.005)
Outcomes calculated only up to 1 year.
Diastolic dysfunction not classified as per the 2016 JASE diastology guidelines.
Included only 120 patients.
The Impact of Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction on Clinical Outcomes After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Masahiko Asami et al, JACC interventions, 2018. Single centre retrospective cohort study. 777 patients with AS who underwent TAVR. Worsening grades of diastolic dysfunction associated with independent predictor of death at 1 year. Outcomes calculated only up to 1 year.
Patients with atrial fibrillation excluded.
Diastolic Function and Clinical Outcomes After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: PARTNER 2 SAPIEN 3 Registry Geraldine Ong et al, JACC, 2020. PARTNER 2 registry study. 1253 patients with severe AS who underwent TAVR Baseline DD was a predictor of up to 2 years clinical outcomes in patients who underwent TAVR. Outcomes calculated only up to 2 years.
Patients with atrial fibrillation excluded.
Association Between Diastolic Dysfunction and Health Status Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Ali O. Malik et al, JACC interventions, 2019. Single centre retrospective cohort study. 304 patients with severe AS who underwent TAVR At 1 and 12 months after TAVR, LVDD was not associated with KCCQ-OS Outcome measured only in terms of KCCQ score.
No mortality or cardiovascular outcomes assessed.

KCCQ-OS, Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire Overall Summary Score; LVDD, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction; TAVR, transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
