Fig. 2. Mass spectra of fragments and products from the electrical discharge of benzene in argon. Neutral species are (singly) ionized using two-color (1 + 1′) REMPI with 270 and 193 nm. The spectrum displayed is obtained by subtracting the mass spectrum with the discharge off from the mass spectrum with the discharge source in operation (see Fig. S1 for the individual mass spectra, ESI†). To enhance the visibility of lower intensity signals the y-axis is truncated, the m/z 126 peak being twice as intense as the m/z 128 peak.
