Mutations affecting Buletin cause a specific susceptibility to P. burhodogranaria. (a) DroSK3 flies succumb to infection by En. cloacae slightly later than either DroSK4 or Dro-AttABSK2 flies that lack both Drc and Btn. The ultimate rate of mortality is comparable (p > 0.05 in comparison between these various Dro mutants). (b) Drosocin mutants that retain Btn (DroSK3) survive infection by P. burhodogranariea better than flies lacking both Drc and Btn (DroSK4, DroAttSK2). (c) Wild-type flies with the Threonine allele of the Btn Thr52Ala polymorphism phenocopy the effect of Btn deletion compared to Alanine-encoding iso w1118 in defence against P. burhodogranariea.
