TABLE 2.
Spontaneous mutations restored motility of a P. aeruginosa ridA mutant
| Strain | Genotype | Swim zonea (mm) | Swim zone + THI (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DMPA4 | Wild-type | 21 ± 0.5b | 20 ± 1b |
| DMPA7 | ridA | 11 ± 0.5 | 13 ± 0.5 |
| DMPA14 | iscS (A548C) | 14 ± 0.5b | 14 ± 0.5b |
| DMPA5 | dapA (A321G, A322G) | 17 ± 0.5b | 17 ± 1b |
| DMPA13 | PA1559 (ΔTCA188) | 17 ± 0.5b | 18 ± 0.5b |
Swim halo diameters were measured in minimal medium with glucose (11 mM) and low agar (0.3%). Thiamine (THI) was present at 100 nM when indicated. Data are presented as the mean and standard deviation of the swimming halo diameter of three biological replicates grown at 37°C for 20 h. Values for each biological replicate were the average of two technical replicates.
Indicates a significant difference in motility relative to the ridA mutant (P < 0.05).
