Inhibition of S. oralis binding to salivary mucins using glycoconjugates. S. oralis IE12 WT was pre-treated with 50 ug/mL of Leb-HSA, SLex-APD-HSA, Lex-APD-HSA or LNT-APD-HSA prior to addition to microtiter plates coated with MUC5B and MUC7/SAG from sample 1. Data shown with background control subtracted. The bars represent mean ± SEM (n=6), ** indicates p ≤ 0.01 and *** p ≤ 0.001, One-way ANOVA, Dunnett´s post hoc test. The results have been reproduced in three independent experiments and a representative experiment is shown here. The structures used for inhibition are depicted using Symbol Nomenclature for Glycans: (Inline graphic) = Fuc, (Inline graphic) = Gal, (Inline graphic) = GlcNAc, (Inline graphic) = GalNAc and (Inline graphic) = NeuAc.
