Structures of several pore-forming regions of bacterial toxins, compared with that of BAX. Several α-helical pore-forming toxins have a globular domain reminiscent of the BCL-2 core of BAX. The structures are colored blue to red from the amino to the carboxyl terminus, and the putative pore-forming helices are identified by their side-chain sticks.
