Nucleolytic activity in the periplasm. The periplasmic fraction of YJ016 or SK005 (YJ016 Δvvn), containing either 0.02 or 0.2 mg of protein, was mixed with 1 μg of λ DNA, and the mixture was incubated at 37°C for 1 h. The nucleolytic products in the mixture were then examined by electrophoresis on a 1.2% agarose gel.
