Endothelial NOX5 does not potentiate atherosclerosis in non-diabetic and diabetic ApoE^−/− mice. Atherosclerotic plaque area was measured at 20 weeks after induction of diabetes in total aorta (a), aortic arch (b), thoracic aorta (c) and abdominal aorta (d). Animals with diabetes showed significantly greater levels of atherosclerosis however animals expressing endothelial Nox5 (red bars) did not have significantly different levels of intimal plaque area compared to ApoE^−/− WT (blue bars).
