Toxicity of peptides toward RBCs. A suspension of RBCs (0.25%, v/v) was incubated with various concentrations of peptides (ranging from 0.01 to 100 μm). Percentage of hemolysis was detected by absorbance of hemoglobin released into the supernatant. Melittin was included as a positive control for hemolysis. Error bars refer to the standard deviation obtained from different experiments, performed in different days with independent blood samples (n = 3 for all vCPP peptides and n = 2 for melittin).
