Adoption of thermoplastic blade designs and the dissolution recycling pathway
Panel A presents the dissolution-based recycling rate as a function of OEM and wind plant developers’ attitudes toward thermoplastic blades and revenues of the dissolution recycling process.
Panel B shows the quantity (in MW) of wind blades produced for two resin options. The adoption of thermoplastic blades is simulated by setting attitude and dissolution net cost values of 0.8 and $600/metric ton, respectively, yielding a similar recycling rate as in the baseline. In panel B, shaded areas represent the 95% confidence interval. Data for panel A were generated with a ML metamodel trained on 1,609 parameter combinations (Sobol sequences) replicated 6 times.
