Divergent regulation of genes encoding E. coli maltodextrin phosphorylase (malP) and glycogen phosphorylase (glpG), paralogs with 48% sequence identity. glpG is transcribed from two different promoters. Green and red boxes indicate proteins that activate and repress transcription, respectively. The locations of the binding sites for the glycogen phosphorylase promoters are not known.
