^aThe initial rate of [¹⁴C]l-malic acid uptake (2 mM; specific activity, 3 × 10⁵ dpm/μmol) was determined in 0.1 M K₂PO₄ buffer, pH 3.5, supplemented with 50 or 2 mM unlabeled organic acid. The values correspond to percent reductions in the rate of uptake of labeled l-malic acid measured without organic acids.
