Initial cell concentrations were 7.0 × 10⁸ ± 0.3 × 10⁸ CFU ml⁻¹, and the detection limit was 10 CFU ml⁻¹. CFU were determined in triplicate, and the mean deviation was less than 10%. The experiment was repeated twice with similar results.
