The spectrum of NAFLD. NAFLD disease progression is linked to multiple factors, including obesity, high cholesterol, metabolic dysfunction, type 2 diabetes, and insulin resistance. The NAFL is the benign form of NAFLD and is characterized by simple steatosis with no or little inflammation. NASH is the advanced form of NAFLD associated with inflammation, ballooning, and fibrosis and has the risk of developing cirrhosis and HCC.
