Top left (duplicate spots), positive control (wild-type strain 4WT harboring the cloning vector pKSV7); top right (duplicate spots), mutant M44 harboring the cloning vector pKSV7; bottom left and bottom right (duplicate spots in each), M44 harboring pNP95 and pNP21, respectively. No reaction was seen in the top right spots (duplicate spots of M44 harboring pKSV7). Fragments contained in pNP95 and pNP21 were as shown in Fig. 3A.
