Animals were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6; significant difference was shown by different letters), including: hypertensive SHRs; SHRs + water extracts of pigeon pea [100 mg/kg body weight (bw)]; SHRs + the water extracts of Bacillus subtilis-fermented pigeon pea (100 mg/kg bw); and SHRs + captopril (5 mg/kg bw). Each value represents the mean ± standard error of the mean. Both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were measured after the start (at 6 weeks of age) of chronic feeding with the water extracts of B. subtilis-fermented pigeon pea or the water extracts of pigeon pea.
