As per the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines (2015) (Workowski & Bolan, 2015), one of the findings listed below along with clinical criteria increase the specificity of diagnosing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: findings
Neisseria Gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia Trachomatis cervical infection
• Elevated ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate)
• Elevated CRP (C-Reactive Protein)
• Abnormal cervical discharge
• Abundant WBCs (White blood cells) in vaginal fluid on saline microscopy
• Fever (temperature >101°F />38.3°C)
