Loss of surface epithelium is noted (stars). Absence of goblet cells and submucosal exudate (curved arrow) are also seen. The lumen of some crypts contains cellular debris (double headed arrow). There is heavy infiltration of the lamina propria and submucosa with inflammatory cells mainly lymphocytes (I) and eosinophils in the lamina propria (bifid arrow).
