Rate constants for bimolecular electron transfer (kET) from selected electron donors (inset at the bottom left) to photoexcited [Cr(dqp)2]3+ (blue circles) and [Ru(bpz)3]2+ (red squares) as a function of reaction free energy (ΔGET), as estimated by eqs 1 and 2 (using reduction potentials and E00 values as indicated in Figures S4 and S5). Least-square fits using eq 3 are shown as solid blue and red lines. Best fits were obtained with kd values of (1.7 ± 0.2) × 1010 and (1.8 ± 0.2) × 1010 M–1 s–1, and ΔGET(0) values of 0.14 ± 0.01 and 0.16 ± 0.01 eV for [Cr(dqp)2]3+ and [Ru(bpz)3]2+ in acetonitrile, respectively.
