Fig. 8 — Relative nucleus size vs DNA content of cells at different life stages of Saccharina latissima. There is a positive correlation between nuclei size and nuclear DNA content. The smaller nuclei corresponded to zoospores (ZSP) and male gametophytes (GM), followed by female gametophyte (GF) and early-stage sporophytes (YSPP). The larger nuclei corresponded to older sporophyte tissue (SPPT). Nevertheless, male gametophytes presented almost three times the amount of DNA in comparison with zoospores.
