SOD− mutants are sensitive to iron limitation. (A) Subsaturating concentrations of DTPA can inhibit the growth of a SOD-deficient strain. Log-phase cultures grown under anaerobic conditions in minimal medium supplemented with all amino acids were diluted into an aerobic medium with or without 50 μM DTPA.
