Between-group difference in brain activation to the contrast of emotional positive (laughter) v. negative (crying) sounds between infants born to depressed v. non-depressed mothers (p < 0.005). These included left dominant activations in the anterior temporal pole [predominantly in the superior temporal gyrus (STG)], amygdala (AMB), parahippocampal gyrus (PHG) and putamen (PUT), and right dominant activations in the medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC).
