The present systematic review is the first to use the generic inverse variance model to calculate standardized mean differences (SMDs) and, therefore, might estimate the real effects of compression garments (CGs) on muscle strength more accurately than SMD estimates used previously.
This review revealed that wearing a CG during or after training appears not to facilitate muscle strength recovery following physical exercise.
Practitioners, athletes, coaches, and therapists should reconsider the use of CG as an adjuvant to reduce the deleterious effects of physical exercise on muscle strength and seek alternative methods.
