Diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus according to the American Diabetes Association – 2015.4

1. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ≥ 6.5%a OR
2. Fasting glucose ≥ 126 mg.dL−1 a (no caloric intake for at least 8 h) OR
3. Glycemia after 2 h – oral GTT ≥ 200 mg.dL−1 a OR
4. Patients with classic symptoms of hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic crisis, with random glycemia ≥ 200 mg.dL−1

GTT, glucose tolerance test.

In the absence of unambiguous hyperglycemia, the results should be confirmed by test repetition.
