Treg function in steady state versus disease. Treg are active mediators of peripheral tolerance and protect us from excessive immune responses including autoimmunity. Treg maintain homeostasis mainly through four modes of action: 1. inhibitory cytokine production, 2. modulating DC function, 3. cytolysis, and 4. metabolic disruption.
