Data are presented as mean (SD). Continuous variables were compared using paired t tests or the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test, according to the normality of their distribution. On the other hand, categorical variables were compared by performing tests on the equality of proportions. A p <0.05 was considered statistically significant.

ALT, alanine aminotransferase; AST, aspartate aminotransferase; CAP, controlled attenuation parameter; CT: cholesterol; FIB, Fibrosis-4; INR, international normalized ratio; MELD, model for end-stage liver disease.

Data available in 35 individuals.
