CspC and CspE are involved in serum resistance. The experiment was performed as described in Fig. 5. The effect of the serum was determined by viable count (A) or by measuring growth as turbidity at OD 600 nm (B). For viable count the bacteria were diluted in LB and 10 μL droplets were plated on LB agar plates. The plates were incubated overnight at 37°C and survival rate was calculated in comparison the wild type. The bacteria used –O78-9 (wild type), its double deletion mutant ΔcspC cspE, and the double deletion mutants complemented by cspC or cspE on pBAD plasmid (55).
