Cultures were grown at 37°C to OD600 = 1.4. Rifampicin was added (500 μg per ml) and samples were taken for RNA extraction at 0, 4, and 6 min. mRNA levels of clpX and tdcA were determined by RT-PCR and normalized to the expression in the wild type. The 16S gene was used as a normalizing gene. The data represents average results of two independent experiments in duplicates.
