Inflammatory gene expression in mouse islets and INS-1E cells.A, mouse islets were exposed to IL-1β (50 pg/ml) for 10 days and/or butyrate (But, 0.2 mM) or left unexposed (Ctr). INS-1E cells were cultured for 72 h (B) or 6 h (C) in presence or absence of IL-1β (12.5 pg/ml) and/or butyrate (0.4 mM) or left unexposed. Total RNA was extracted, and relative mRNA expression levels were analyzed using RT-qPCR. Expression levels were normalized to the expression of the housekeeping gene Ppia and are shown as fold increase relative to IL-1β-exposed islets/cells.
