BMD change and its association with PTH change. (A) Percentage change in BMD by DXA with ART initiation (n = 16). There was a significant decline in femoral neck at 6 months. After 1 year, BMD decreased approximately 2.1% at the lumbar spine, 2.8% at the femoral neck, and 1.8% at the total hip. No significant changes were seen in 1/3 distal radius BMD. (B) Correlation between percentage change in femoral neck BMD and 1-year percentage change in PTH. The greater the PTH increase, the greater the bone loss at femoral neck.
