Swimming motility of V. parahaemolyticus mutant strains with flagellar switch or motor defects in M agar. Semisolid motility plates were incubated at 30°C for 8 (top) and 9.5 h (bottom). All mutant strains are derivatives of LM1017. Strain LM1017 fails to produce lateral flagella; therefore, there is no contribution to motility from the lateral motility system.
