Both ektacytometry and the OcclusionChip can effectively detect the abnormal RBC deformability in SCD. (A) At all the three shear stress levels (3, 16.87 and 30 Pa), the Elongation Index (EI) of RBCs from subjects with homozygous SCD (HbSS) is significantly lower than those from healthy donors (HbAA) by ektacytometry (p < 0.05, student’s t-test).
