Overview of the airway epithelial barrier in asthmatics for viral infection compared to healthy airway epithelium. Asthmatic epithelial cell immunity reacts differently from normal epithelial cells under viral infectious conditions, which appears to play a role in aggravating the disease by inducing self-damage through an excessive immune response rather than the normal protective function.
