Rats were monitored for 28 days. During the 3 days before the MCAO rats were taught how to pass the beam-walking test, weighed, and the neurological status of the animals was assessed. Rats were distributed into different groups so that the mean weight was similar. After modeling the stroke by MCAO control MRI was performed and the volume of ischemic lesions was measured. For the next 5 days, rats were given intraperitoneally normal saline or Compound 4. At the end of this period, locomotor activity of the animals was assessed using a beam-walking test. There were regular neurological status assessments using mNSS. Additional beam-walking and open field tests were used to investigate the motor and neurological deficits in rats. At the end of the experiment, we performed MRI and immunohistochemical measurements of the astrocytes in the brains of the experimental rats. * Neurological test assessment mNSS, MRI # days of MRI.
