The synthetic planning target volume (PTV) structure was defined on the basis of the beam apertures for the 4‐field‐box plans. First, the geometric beam path from each beam angle was converted into a 3D binary mask, and then the volume overlapped by each mask was defined as the region of hot spot detection (RHD).
