The samples of freeze-dried MVs or bacterial cells were heated in 5% (wt/vol) methanolic HCl at 100°C for 3 h. The resulting FAMEs were extracted twice with n-hexane and concentrated under a stream of nitrogen gas. The FAMEs were analyzed using a gas-liquid chromatograph (model GC-380; GL-Science).
