Population homogeneity of various E. coli strains harboring the transporter-reporter plasmid system. All cultures harbored the transporter gene on pAK02 (P_tac::araE) and reporter gene on pCSAK50 (araC-P_BAD::gfpuv). Cells were grown in the presence of 32 μg of IPTG per ml. Flow cytometry analysis was performed 4 h after addition of arabinose. In control experiments, all strains harbored pCSAK50 and pMMB207. Experiments were performed in triplicate. Results from a single experiment are presented.
