Surface tension of mammalian saliva. The surface tension of WT (black bar) and KO (open bar) mouse saliva was expressed as mean ± range; duplicate determinations from two mice per group. The published surface tensions of human saliva (Christersson et al., 2000; Freitas et al., 1993), bovine saliva (Reid and Huffman, 1949) and water (Gakhar et al., 2010; Reid and Huffman, 1949) are shown for comparison (mean ± range).
