While CMLA1 is encoded by a gene cassette from In4 (3), CMLA2 is encoded by a gene cassette from In40 (50), CMLA4 is encoded by a gene cassette from In52 (51), and the genes for CMLA3, CMLA3a and -3b (2, 6, 7) are chromosomal and not present on gene cassettes. CMLA3a and -b differ from CMLA3 by one single-amino-acid substitution each (L308F and V274A, respectively); only the sequence of CMLA3 is displayed.
