Role of Cellulose and MLG in biofilm formation by R. etli CFN42. (A) Biofilm formation by single mutants in celAB cellulose genes (Cel−), in bgsA (MLG−), the double mutant (Cel− MLG−) and their respective parental strains (WT) with or without pleD* quantified after static growth, 72 h in MM in a 96-well plate at 28 °C, by crystal violet (CV) staining and represented as the means of eight different wells for each strain ± standard deviation of three independent experiments. Similar growth of all strains was confirmed by measuring OD600 before CV staining. (B) Representative pictures of biofilms adhered to the wells of the polystyrene plates, stained with CV, before resuspension with ethanol. Different letters over the bars indicate statistical significant differences with a p < 0.05.
