^aOne colony of IH7211 (P_spac-prsA) from an L plate supplemented with 1 mM IPTG was suspended in 1 ml of water and diluted in water as indicated; 100-μl samples were spread on L plates (no induction of P_spac-prsA) or L plates supplemented with 1 mM IPTG (P_spac-prsA induced). Plates were incubated for 20 h at 37°C, and raised colonies were counted.
