The proportion of CD14⁺ cells that performed (A) phagosomal superoxide burst activity and phagosomal bulk proteolytic activity (B) and that were associated with beads, (C) the phagosomal superoxide burst activity index, and (D) the phagosomal bulk proteolytic activity index. The readout for the assay is reported as the median fluorescent intensity of the reporter fluorochrome at 60 minutes (mins):10 mins and 240 mins:10 mins for oxidative burst and bulk proteolysis, respectively. The activity index was calculated using a ratio of the reporter fluorochrome over the calibration fluorochrome. Only individuals with an uptake of greater than ≥30% were used in the phagosomal analysis.
